After witnessing last night's contest, it was apparent how the KVC is down this year (not by a lot, but noticeable). Novi simply couldn't block
Stevenson. Most of their success came when they got man coverage and heaved it long before being sacked (which they were many times). Novi couldn't run
the ball at all. Stevenson is hard to defend b/c they have a lot of good players at the skill positions. Nobody scares the crap out of you, but they have so
many solid weapons as to make things difficult defensively. And despite the score, Novi played decent defense, especially against the run. Stevenson's
scores came on long throws, too, and TO's deep in their own territory. The last score by Stevenson was after a desperation 4th down throw that was
intercepted near Novi's red zone. Novi simply gave in at that point, and I don't blame them. Simply put, Stevenson is clearly the better team, and
clearly better than anyone the KVC has to offer.
One way you can tell the league was down is that Lakeland and Howell were at or near the top, without having better football teams than they have had the past two years. They haven't come up to the top, the top has regressed back to them this year. The KVC is not down by a lot, but it hasn't come close to the standards the league has had during this decade. To wit: 2000: Brighton was IMO the best team in the state, but got upset by eventual state champ Grand Ledge 2001: Down year 2002: Novi makes it to regional final, beating league champ Milford in the 1st round, then highly touted Lake Orion in the 2nd round. 2003: Novi makes it to semi's, should've beaten Rice IMO. 2004: South Lyon to the semi's, gave eventual state champ Rockford all they could handle. 2005: Brighton-Milford play for regional title, Brighton gives eventual state champ Rockford the 3OT scare of its life. 2006: Milford outplays Rockford (IMO) in regional title matchup, but falls. 2007: Down year Side note: How come every time the league has a down year, Howell is at the top of the league standings? Hmmm...  |

Congrats to Stevenson! They were definetly the better of the two teams. I agree with the Colonel on this one, the KVC didn't have a banner year
(obviously). 3 things stood out for me last night. 1) Stevenson was clearly the favorite/better team. 2) Novi kept putting Stevenson in 3rd and 12, 3rd and 10,
3rd and whatever....and Stevenson would convert (QB would run, passes underneath would gain 10-12 yards, etc). 3) Stevenson had too many athletes at too many
positions. Novi seemed to shut down 2/3rds of what Stevenson wanted to do, but would get tripped up by the the remaining "third". Congrats to Novi on
a "good" season. You were picked to finish 4th in the league and managed a co-championship. more later.........

of course i wasnt at the game but it sounded like stevenson destroyed novi
i read some of the things that have been said the could not stop them on 3rd and long but when you lose by 3 tds it sounds like you had no chance of winning i would like to say congrats to novi what a great season and you did you team high school and city proud to stevenson dont over look franklin you did win by 12 earlier in the year but its the playoffs its a different season |

Baligian, I wouldn't say "destroy" is an accurate description.... Stevenson scored a late TD also. The half time score was 21-14, Stevenson got a
TD to start the 2nd half, Novi scored (28-21)....then Stevenson scored again, and Novi had to essentially pass on every down after that and it wasn't real
hard for Stevenson to fugure that out. Stevenson couldn't run on Novi, Novi couldn't run on Stevenson. Novi turned the ball over 4 times to
"zero" (I think). It wasn't a blowout as the score might indicate, but Novi certainly didn't do anything to help themselves.....for a while
there, it was likely the closest an opponent has played Stevenson all year. Novi needed to play a "perfect" (i.e. make some big stops often/gain
turnovers, move the ball on the ground AND thru the air) game to beat Stevenson.....Novi just wasn't built this year to A). come back from deficits over
and over again, or B) expect to win a game when they commit 4 turnovers and fail to cause any. Stevenson maintained a 7-14 point lead for the majority of the
game and tacked on one late. "Destroyed" is 49-7, or 49-0....lol. This was more like....they "Handled" Novi.

kvc ya alright destroy was a bad word but i did read stevenson was up 35-14 at one point in the 3rd or 4th quarter so handled is probably a better word you are

It doesn't even matter. It was a "good" (meaning relatively close) game until late in the 3rd. Stevenson has a great shot of making it to Ford
Field. What happens there? who knows? Got to get past Franklin who is on fire, and then the Troy/Cousino winner. Best of Luck to the Stevenson Spartans! They
have alot of weapons, gave Novi fits all night trying to cover/stuff the RB, the recievers, and a mobile QB. Too many ways to get burned in the end.

It was a fantastic game till the third quarter. I believe it was 35-14 before Novi scored again. The best player on the field was #23 Austin White..He did
everything..Ran very well when he had the ball and caught 2 touchdowns and ran 1..I know someone put that they did not run well but if I remember right,
Stevenson had over 100 yards rushing easy..Maybe im wrong but statman will know..
The one thing I was totally shocked about was how many passes were thrown between both teams.. I expected Novi to try and run it and the same with Stevenson, but wow..

westernlakesdominate, As I said EARLIER it doesn't matter. I said Stevenson was the better team, I said Stevenson "Handled" Novi. Stevenson DIDN'T turn the ball over, Novi did 4 times. I don't know exactly what you want to hear from me? Congrats to your team! They are VERY solid THIS year. Novi will be facing them ALOT from now on, so we'll see who DOMINATES who down the road. You beat the 3rd best team Novi has produced in the last 5 years, I doubt they'd have beaten the 02 team, and they would have gotten smoked by the 03 team (IMO). It was a down year for the KVC, it's been stated many times this year, I just couldn't say it until ALL teams were knocked out. Congrats to the WLAA, you've certainly got TWO teams worthy of RESPECT this year. TOMMYZ, it was nice meeting you in person. You were dead on about Stevenson (not that I doubted you). Too many weapons, good team speed. The QB had good touch and could also tuvck the ball and make yards. I'll be interested in seeing if Stevenson can make the finals, and if they do...how they stack up against a Dakota/Holt/CC...or....??? whomever. |

yeah, Novi was definetly NOT playing to their strength. They pass ALOT compared to many teams, but passing 65% of the time isn't their game. I showed up to
watch football, and ended up seeing a track meet. It was 14-7 when I walked in the door at 7:20-something....and Novi scored less than a minute later. Crazy
game.

Really? I missed the memo where Arshaun Hall wasnt 100% healthy, what was wrong with him? He was without a doubt, a major contributor to Novi and one of their
best "game changing", "play-makers".

I noticed Hall limping in the game. We were wondering what was up. That's too bad, as a healthy Hall would have had a significant impact on the outcome.

somewhat.....

Or you could take Lakeland's approach and run it down their throat with 5 ft 140 lb. Rhode, PastBack, its safe to say the running backs have diminished
this season, or graduated hah, one of the two.
