How are the D1 KVC and WLAA teams looking? |

In the end this may be a "counting chickens before they hatch" situation -- but CC sitting at 4-2 and two "winnable" games coming up,
there's more than a 50/50 shot in my opinion that CC is back in the D1 playoffs.
Any real contenders? |

The only team who could match up with CC is a team that cannot get road-grated up front and can sustain the physical pounding for 48 straight minutes, while
also holding a speed advantage. That said, I think Canton, Livonia Stevenson, WLW, and perhaps Novi are the only teams who could beat them this year. I think
Brighton, South Lyon, and Howell could play with them for a while, but if you're going to try to slug it out with CC, you're going to lose. You have to
be able to stand up to them on D, then beat them with athletes on O. This is only my opinion, however, which doesn't seem to contain much credibility in
'07.

Thanks for the info guys!! I think if being beat up physically up front is an issue for a team, this is not their year to beat CC, this might be CC's strongest team in the trenches since they won the D1 title in 2003. --- and in my opinion their best overall team defensively since 03. This is their year with some "new ideas" defensively, as in, Coratti was the D-Coordinator since the 1970s up until 2006 ---- and was great --- but it's interesting to see something at little different --- as in a switch from a 5-2 to a 4-3 base defense and some other things. --- It's not every year we see "changes" at CC schematically ... so it's been interesting --- and very good so far. Offensively I think there are still some issues, but they seem to be improving.

All the KVC teams in contention play many players both ways, so that won't be an issue. And CC is probably in better condition.

My opinion on who has a chance to beat CC in the playoffs are
1. Livonia Stevenson - I honestly believe Stevenson would win going away.. 2. Howell - Would be a real close game. could go either way 3. Novi - I believe they have a chance because of coaching.. Other than that, I dont believe there are any other teams that can beat them...

Stevenson has been able to keep some of the games close early with some speed and a strong passing game, but in every case they just got worn down up front. I saw Novi play CC a few years back and the only TRUE seperation between the 2 teams was the size and depth of the CC lines. Novi held on for the entire first
half (6-3 at the half), and gradually CC used their depth and size to just wear them out. CC scored a TD in the 3rd, and 2 more in the 4th. At the time Novi
had maybe 3-4 lineman weighing 220-240 lbs, whereas CC had about 7-8 who came in at about 230-260 lbs. It wasn't rocket science, they just wore out Novi in
the trenches and soon runs that were gaining 1-2 yards were popping for 5 to 7 yards per carry. You can't play CC heads-up if you don't match up.

I did not see the St. Marys game, but CC has not been able to pound the ball for 80 yard, 6-10 minutes(without even thinking about throwing a pass) drives against the better teams like they were able to do "back in the day" -- this team needs to use a little more imagination and I hope they figure it out. I think CC will have a tough game no matter who they end up with in the districts. |

I saw CC go to Jackson Lumen Christi back in 2004 and just "eyeing it" it looked like the Lumen D-Line went something like 180, 155, 170, 165. Anyway they were TINY, but tough, strong, quick and played disciplined defense and really shut CC down for the most part. |

True, but the QB tore his ACL in that game, and the linemen had zero left in the tank for the Brighton game the following week. So CC did wear Milford down, it just didn't take effect until the next morning. I'll bet the CC players were pretty bruised up after that one, too. |

I think it's more than safe to say that CC can't just strap on their helmets these days and expect the opposing team to roll over or be intimidated
(assuming it's a quality playoff opponent). The recent years have shown area teams that CC has weaknesses too and that WLAA and KVC teams have made DEEP
runs in the Division 1 playoffs. I think every team that has a wit of intelligence knows CC is to be respected and taken very seriously, but they can also be
toppled through a team effort and a good game plan.

I understand everyones skepticism about Stevenson and wont argue against their history..But I have watched both teams and I dont believe CC would win....

Tommy, I don't doubt you about Stevenson and their talent. I've been waiting to see them play Brighton (should win that one) and the playoffs since you
started reporting their strength this year. It's tough to really determine the strength of ANY team until playoff time and this includes ALL of the CHSL
this year. How good is the WLAA/Stevenson? How good are ANY of the KVC teams? How good is CC, BR, OLSM, DLS? That's why playoff time is the best time of
the year IMO. Personally, I believed that the BEST teams in the state come from the OK Conference in Div 1 and Div 2 in the last few years and they get
overshadowed because they are WAY over there on the other side of the state. The problem is they knock each other out just trying to head East.
